Catalogue Cleansing Project - Mitrais was commissioned by a manufacturing company to perform data cleansing work for the organisation’s material catalogue. The initiative is part of a larger maintenance and supply chain improvement program at the company which was aimed at improving inventory performance while reducing costs.
The material catalogue data cleansing initiative comprised three phases:
- A workshop at the customer site with key users to define cataloguing standards and procedures.
- Development of upload and download scripts for data exchange from/to the Ellipse system.
- Bulk cataloguing work which was performed at Mitrais’ Bali office.
These tasks were completed in about two months by Mitrais’ team of material cataloguers and Ellipse technical consultants.
The following key results were achieved:
- The material catalogue is neat and its descriptions are easy to understand.
- All materials have a standard name and group coding system and the grouping of commodities is more accurate.
- These improvements allow faster searching.
The company is continuing to work with Mitrais to execute the final phase of the program which is to perform the cleansing work for all remaining catalogue data.
Once the project is completed they expect to enjoy:
- Reduced stock holding costs due to elimination of duplicate items.
- Reduced purchasing costs as a result of a more efficient purchase order preparation process.
- Reduced internal and external equipment supply lead times which will in turn lead to reduced equipment downtime.
